Frequently Asked Questions

FYSA has gone through some changes in the last year, some subtle and others a bit more in-depth. Our desire is to help answer any and all questions that we can in order to help your family enjoy being part of our wonderful soccer community. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions about our programs and registration.

Q. We’ve been with FYSA for a while, why doesn't this new website recognize our old login information?
A. It definitely IS a new website in more ways that one and we hope it will help us serve you better. Our previous registration system and website served it’s purpose for many years, but the cost and functionality was something we wanted to improve upon. We made the switch to a new provider in February 2015 and have been very happy with the improved website and greater user-friendly nature from both the parent’s end as well as the admin side. Because it’s a completely new system, families will need to create a new account. We are confident you’ll find our new site helpful and are happy to assist you with any questions you may have.

Q. When and where will my child’s soccer games be?
A. During the winter, games typically take place on Saturdays with the first games at 9am and the latest games at 4pm. Because the gyms are not ours, we are subject to school district availability. We do our best to keep age divisions in the same general window of game times week to week so a team wouldn't have a 9am game one week and a 4pm game the next, etc. We also work to keep gyms consistent. For the younger, PreK groups, there will be some additional options. Typically they meet at 6pm on a weeknight but prior to the start of the season we will contact parents of these players and allow them to choose their preference of a weeknight or Saturday morning. For all other ages, games take place during the winter sessions on Saturdays and usually at just a handful of consistent schools (Tanana, Randy Smith, Ryan, etc.)

Q. Great! But what about practices?
A. Just like games, our gym availability is subject to school district schedules. While games on Saturday are pretty consistent, weeknight practice times are a bit more challenging. Each winter we have a complex schedule of days, times and locations that are available for our use. Efforts are made to give teams locations and times that are close to where they live and as ideal as possible. Younger teams will typically get earlier time slots and some older divisions may not be provided practice slots each week. We are always working to find other locations that are available for practices during the week. Also be aware that sometimes plans can change and the schools can notify us late in the day about a cancellation for a gym reservation. We will always get the word out as quickly as possible and make other arrangements, if possible, for those affected.

Q. What kind of things will my child need to play soccer?
A. In the winter, all players will receive a shirt/jersey with their registration. Players in grades Kindergarten and up are required to wear shinguards, socks that cover said shinguards and shorts. PreK players are not required to wear any of these items, though PreK-4 players are encouraged to wear shinguards. Shorts and socks are typically not provided to players in the indoor sessions. If you would like to purchase these items for a low cost, feel free to contact us as we have a variety of sizes and colors available for purchase. ALL players must wear non-marking shoes when playing in the school gyms. Specific indoor soccer shoes aren't required, though many players find their stability and ball control much improved with indoor soccer shoes. We also encourage, for safety, that players do their best to avoid tracking snow and other wetness onto the courts.

Q. What are the age/gender division guidelines?
A.At the younger ages where a year's difference is huge when it comes to players development and readiness, divisions are separated to have single year age brackets. All teams are co-ed during the winter. Age divisions for the indoor sessions will be formed as follows:
PreK-3
PreK-4
Kindergarten
1st Grade
2nd-3rd Grade
4th-5th Grade
Middle School (6th-8th Grade)
High School (9th-12th Grade)

Q. What if I want my child to play in an older/younger division?
A. In our Forms and References page under the 'About FYSA' menu tab is a 'play up' form. We usually honor all requests from families who have a player they'd like to move to an older age bracket and policies are included on that form. We typically do not look to put players in younger age groups than what they'd normally be in unless there is some extenuating circumstance.

Q. When will we hear about specific team schedules and practice times?
A. After the registration period closes, all our energy is directed to forming teams and getting schedules set. The season begins the end of September and in the 2 weeks prior is when all the action happens in these areas. You'll receive updates from us and close to the start of the session be contact by a coach if and when your team has one assigned.

As more details about all things FYSA are available, or if common themes pop up in questions we receive, we will update this page to help provide information that is applicable to many of our members. If you have questions that aren't answered here, in the registration pages, or the other resources available on the website, feel free to email us at [email protected] or call 456-3972
