South Davis Park
The Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association is proud to announce the completion of 16-acres of new soccer fields at the Fairbanks North
Star Boroughs new South Davis Park. South Davis Park is conveniently located directly across the street from FYSAs 36-acre Wilbur Street Soccer Complex. The 16-acres of new turf will host 6 full
size fields, which are targeted for use in the 2010 season.
The South Davis project is a community success story of partnership between local governments, generous donations from local
contractors, foundation grants and volunteers.
The Fairbanks North Star Borough constructed roads, parking lots, and provided electricity and wells along with signing a 40-acre
lease agreement with FYSA to grow its program. Long-term plans are to construct a total of 14 new full size fields at South Davis Park.
Local contractors have donated fill material valued at $550,000 over the past 3-years and are key to the continued success of more
Significant financial contributions were received in 2007 with the award of a Rasmuson Foundation grant in the amount of $390,000.00
to complete these first 6 fields and the Tanana Valley Sports Foundation also awarded FYSA a $150,000.00 grant for field development. ConocoPhillips Alaska donated $5,000.00 as part of the Rasmuson
Foundations matching grant challenge and a pending $15,000 BP Alaska grant match donation is in the works. Earlier grants from the State of Alaska and Fairbanks Youth Sports were $50,000.00 and
$25,000.00 respectively. Various other donations have been received as well as a $6,000 check from Alaska Youth Soccer Association targeted for field development at South Davis.
FYSA is a non-profit (501 3 c) Volunteer organization, which serves as the host for most of Fairbankss community outdoor soccer
programs. FYSA Board member Pat Miller P. E. took the lead as project manager for South Davis Park in 2004 and after completing the first 16-acres is currently facilitating progress on the next two
phases of field development. Other Board members key to the success of South Davis are Brian Luoma who volunteers countless hours to the improvement and maintenance of fields and past President
Dhana Krause whose leadership and direct management style were key to the confidence and success of the project.
Donations for continuing field development of the remaining 8 fields at South Davis Park are welcome and can be sent to Fairbanks
Youth Soccer Association, P. O. Box 73915, Fairbanks, AK 99707.
