Ben Shilling started coaching for Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association recreational programs when his children started playing soccer at the U6 level; sixteen years ago. Ben's youngest child Adam will be graduating from High School this year and this will be his last year of coaching for FYSA. Ben has proven to be a positive role model to the youth he has coached over the years, he remains to be a highly requested coach for each soccer session. The teams he coaches both indoor and outdoor throughout the years has been sponsored by his place of employment which continues to help support FYSA programs.

Players love to participate on Ben's team as he is a positive, and inspiring coach. He shows great leadership with the youth along with promoting positive sportsmanship both on and off the soccer field. Ben has remained a positive role model to the players; where they have an adult to look up to and to trust in their lives. Ben welcomes all his players with enthusiasm and a dedication that is hard to find in all volunteers. The commitment to coach each indoor and outdoor sessions for a straight sixteen years has inspired many in a positive light.
Ben's positive outlook on youth soccer in Fairbanks has been to offer his volunteerism on an ongoing basis for the past sixteen years. Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association does not compensate their coaches, but praises the coaches every year during the Volunteer Appreciation week and offers coaching support throughout the year. FYSA cannot think of better example of a volunteer recreational coach who inspires players and families around him in such a positive manner that he is exactly what youth soccer is about.
Congratulations Ben!
