Fairbanks Volunteer of the Year for Alaska
Pat Miller is pictured with Fairbanks soccer players beside the donated Power Rake for the South Davis Complex. Pat secured the donation through Tanana Valley Youth Sports Foundation.
Pat Miller has been an active volunteer with Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association for more than a dozen years. His children participated in the program; he has served on the FYSA Board, and has been an active non board volunteer for several years. Pat is the spear head of our South Davis project for our new soccer complex, working with the FYSA Board, the Fairbanks Borough and private donors. He was successful in writing the grant for accruing funding for the new complex; which the first phase opened in 2010.
Pat Miller continues to be our field expert on what needs to be done developmentally with the existing fields and new fields. He has required large sums of donated fill dirt which has allowed FYSA to start the development of three more fields projected to be opened in 2012. He has also secured funding for FYSA to purchase a power rake, equipment for the wells, donated products and resources which has allowed FYSA to continue to work on the new soccer complex and to keep within projected timeline of development
Pat continues to speak at community functions and events regarding the benefits of youth soccer and the goals of Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association. Even though Pat's children graduated from high school a couple years ago; he continues to be actively involved by volunteering his time year round without any compensation. Pat shows no signs of slowing down and is committed to the full development of South Davis soccer complex project, along with donating his time unselfishly by developing our yearly field maps. He attends regular Board meetings to keep the Board informed of the progress; he truly believes in the FYSA Mission. Pat Miller is a treasure to have and FYSA is very lucky to have his dedication and support for our youth in Fairbanks.
