FYSA Summer 2020 Season - COVID-19 Mitigation Plan for All Participants

23 May 2020

To Our Summer 2020 Participants,

This past week, the State of Alaska released the document titled ‘Alaska’s Plan Forward’. Contained therein was the direction that effective Friday, May 22, ‘All sports activities can open’. While short and straightforward, the principles of this document will serve as the foundation for individuals, businesses and organizations and will help guide FYSA’s COVID-19 Mitigation Plan as we enter the Summer 2020 soccer season.

Earlier this month, ‘Health Mandate 016: Reopen Alaska Responsibly Plan Phase I & II’ was released and ‘Attachment U’ contained information regarding ‘Organized Sports, Activities, and Guided Recreation’, issued May 8th and revised on May 12. Mandate 16, and thus Attachment U, has since been rescinded and replaced with the ‘Alaska’s Plan Forward’. A new ‘Advisory Document Phase III-IV’ for ‘Organized Sports, Activities, and Guided Recreation’ (also referred to as Attachment U) was published May 22.

In addition to federal, state and local entities providing guidance for individuals, businesses and organizations to move forward, we also have ‘parent-organizations’ in the soccer world which provide additional resources for ‘Return-to-Play Protocols’. Our youth recreational players are registered with Soccer Association for Youth (SAY Soccer), Eclipse Soccer Club players are registered with US Youth Soccer (USYS) through Alaska Youth Soccer Association (AYSA), and those playing in adult leagues do so under the umbrella of the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). All of these entities are members of the US Soccer Federation (USSF). We have an ‘alphabet soup’ of parent-organizations for guidance and these entities, along with the publications from the state, will be utilized for our Mitigation Plan.

This plan will not be able to cover everything. It may seem too thorough for some FYSA members’ liking and it may not seem thorough enough for others. It is the intention of FYSA to proceed into our summer soccer season not just with consideration for the safety and well being of our players and those who participate with them, but also with a spirit of respect and understanding towards our fellow soccer family members. Those who do not feel that they can abide by the principles contained herein are asked to withdraw from participation, as are those who are not comfortable with being involved this season for any personal reasons, family situations, health considerations, etc. As encouraged by the state and our parent-organizations, and with the full support of the FYSA Board of Directors, requests for withdrawing from the season will be honored and refunds provided, minus a small processing fee, to any who communicate such decisions prior to the start of scheduled events.

Additionally, in order to participate for the coming season, youth recreational and adult league players (or their parent/guardian) will be required to accept an updated participation waiver/release, per insurance requirements from our parent-organization. A separate email will be sent on this topic with a link to complete this requirement electronically. Printed copies will also be available. This must be completed prior to participation for all players.

We are a diverse community as it is and our soccer community is no different. Our love for this sport is the common factor that brings us together. We look forward to enjoying the season with any of our members who we will see at the fields. For those taking this year to enjoy worthwhile, non-soccer activities with their families, we wish them a great summer and look forward to seeing them again in the future!

FYSA reserves the right to modify this Mitigation Plan as appropriate or required, based on further direction and guidance from federal, state or local entities as well as parent-organizations in the soccer world as previously mentioned. This plan will be published and available on FYSA’s website with any updates or revisions posted there.

If any FYSA member has questions or concerns, please contact us. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner.

Updated Participation Waiver for the Summer 2020 Season

As part of the 'return-to-play' protocols established for the summer 2020 soccer season, the language contained in the standard participation waiver further below on this page for FYSA programs was updated per the requirements of our parent organizations and insurance provider. Everything contained in the original waiver is still in effect.

The following link will allow you to accept this waiver electronically and only takes a minute:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SBH2DTW

If preferred, paper copies are available directly from the FYSA office.
Click Here to view a PDF version of the document.

Accepting this updated participation waiver is required for all participants in order to take part in the summer season. Every player needs to have either turned in a paper copy of this form OR submitted an electronic response via the link above, prior to the start of the season.

If you have more than one player participating in your household, a single submission may be used provided all players are listed in the participant field of the form.

If you have any questions, please contact the FYSA Executive Director, Colt Chase, at 907-456-3972 or preferably by email at [email protected]
