Indoor Soccer and COVID-19

MONDAY 3/23/2020
As of this weekend, all public school has been suspended through May 1st per the Governor as a mandate related to the COVID-19 situation. As a result, the entire remaining portion of the Winter 2020 indoor soccer season has been cancelled. The FYSA Board of Directors will be meeting (virtually) this week to discuss the situation and participants will be emailed in the near future. As of now, with summer soccer being more than 2 months away, we ARE still planning on our summer season proceeding as normal and will update the membership if anything on that matter changes.
Thank you for your understanding. Our hearts go out to all families dealing with these challenges and look forward to seeing you again.

The following was emailed to all indoor soccer participants Monday afternoon, March 16th:

Hello everyone,

Just a follow up to last week’s email about indoor soccer and COVID-19 matters. As everyone knows, things across the state are on-hold for the next two weeks and soccer activities are no exception. We have a variety of controlling factors including availability of space (FNSBSD school gyms), parent organizations (US Soccer, SAY, USYS, AYSA, USASA, etc.) as well as local, state and federal guidelines and mandates.

At the moment, all scheduled activities through March 29th are postponed. We still have enough weeks available throughout April to make up most, if not all, of postponed soccer events should the current constraints begin to diminish. We will be waiting for word on what happens next from the entities referenced early. We don’t anticipate much by way of news on these matters until next week. We do have a Board of Directors meeting scheduled for late next week where we plan to discuss how to proceed should the option to make up postponed events not be possible this spring.

For now, we are in limbo along with the rest of you for many things in our world. We are still anticipating summer soccer proceeding as planned and registration is still available online through May 2nd at We are definitely appreciating things a lot more these days, in a soccer context as well as so many others, that we might have taken for granted in the past.

We wish everyone a safe, positive, healthy week and will be in touch later next week with any further updates.

The following was emailed to all indoor soccer participants Friday morning, March 13th and 9 AM:

Good morning

This email is going out to all participants in the current FYSA indoor soccer season. As most of you are likely aware, the FNSBSD has announced that schools will be closed for the week of March 16th in an effort to join with other entities across the state and nation to ‘flatten the curve’ with regard to the spread of COVID-19 and ‘social distancing’. As you can imagine, this also affects outside user groups that rent school gyms such as soccer.

In line with this decision and the reasoning behind it, and in consultation with the FYSA Board of Directors, all scheduled indoor soccer activities for both youth and adults will be postponed for the week of March 16th. While we can’t predict how this situation will evolve beyond this coming week, please know that as someone whose full time job is managing these programs, I will be paying close attention to the decisions of the school district as well as the input and direction from higher level authorities in our state, country and parent-organizations in the soccer community. We will communicate later next week, as soon as we have any information, as to how things will proceed going forward. For now, we will spend our day going through the online system and updating any scheduled events as ‘postponed’, which may also send an automated email notification.

Thank you for your understanding. Best of luck to everyone as we collectively face this unique challenge for our community. We’ll be in touch.
